XM: The US dollar index hits a new low since April 2022
XM Exchange Review: Although the Federal Reserve insists on not cutting interest rates, the weakness of the US dollar index is still continuing. Federal Reserve Chairman Powell said in his semi-annual congressional testimony that "the current Fed maintains a wait-and-see attitude is a prudent move, and economic trends need to be clearer before considering adjusting its policy stance." Mainstream expectations believe that Powell will restart interest rate cuts as early as the third quarter of this year, provided that Trump's policies do not cause US prices to continue to rise. Even though the Federal Reserve has maintained a high interest rate of 4.25 to 4.5%, the US dollar index still cannot obtain effective support. In the first four trading days of this week, the US dollar index closed negative lines continuously, with a cumulative decline of nearly 1.5%, with a low of 97.26, hitting a new low since April 2022.
The core factors that affect the US dollar index are shifting from the Federal Reserve's monetary policy to the recession of the US macroeconomic. The decline in the US dollar index has a lot to do with Trump's radical policies. Especially in April this year, tariffs were imposed on most countries around the world, which caused the US dollar index to fall by 2.83% in that month, reaching a low of 99.01, breaking through the 100 integer mark. Moody's downgrade of the US sovereign debt rating has aggravated financial institutions' dissatisfaction with the development of the US macroeconomic, and the US dollar index has been dragged down.
From the economic data perspective, the US GDP annualized by 2.1% in the first quarter, down three consecutive periods, and the macro economy showed signs of weakness. The core inflation rate is 2.8%, which has remained stable for three consecutive months, higher than the Fed's expected target of 2%, and monetary policy has reasons to maintain a tightening. The unemployment rate is 4.2%, which is below the full employment standard of 5%, and the labor market performs well. The total government debt in May was $36.21 trillion,Higher level. From the trend structure perspective, at the daily level, the US dollar index is in a medium- and long-term short trend, the latest band is a decline, and the market price has fallen below the previous low. The previously believed "triple bottom" structure has been declared to be a failure. From the perspective of golden ratio, this round of decline in the US dollar index may not be able to obtain new support until the expansion level of 1.382~1.618, with the corresponding price range of 96.27~95.32 points.
