Euro/USD fell as Israel-Iran conflict hit the market, ending a 4-day rise

Euro/USD ended its four-day uptrend and recorded a loss on Friday as risk appetite was hit after Israel launched an attack on Iran, driving the safe-haven appeal of the US dollar (USD). At the time of writing, the pair traded at 1.1530, down 0.36%.

Sentences have turned sharply after breaking news about the Israeli attack, targeting Iranian militia officials, facilities and nuclear facilities. So Iran retaliated, launched more than a hundred drones and canceled the sixth round of nuclear negotiations, according to the Tehran Times.

In the headlines, the dollar appreciated against most G7 currencies and the euro was barely damaged, with the pair hitting 1.1488, with an intraday decline of nearly 0.80%.

U.S. President Donald Trump said it is not clear whether Iran still has nuclear plans, according to Reuters. “I tried to save Iran from humiliation and death,” he said, adding that he was not worried about the regional outbreak.

Recently, U.S. (US) data suggests that consumer optimism about the economy is rising, according to the University of Michigan (UoM). Regarding inflation expectations, while inflation data released this week increased the bets that the Fed may cut interest rates in 2025, Americans still believe prices are above the Fed's 2% target.

In the euro zone (EU), Germany's May inflation data remained unchanged at an annual rate of 2.1% as expected. Inflation in France and Spain remains below the 2% target of the European Central Bank (ECB). Industrial output across the euro zone fell sharply in April, growing 2.4% in March, at an annual rate of -2.4%, lower than expected 1.7% contraction.

The heat map shows the percentage change of major currencies relative to other currencies. The base currency is selected from the left column, while the quote currency is selected from the top row. For example, if you select Euro from the left column and move along the horizontal line to USD, the percentage change shown in the box will represent EUR (Base)/USD (Quotation).

Technical Outlook: Euro/USD hover below 1.1550, the dollar rebounds strongly

The upward trend of Euro/USD remains, and the pair has continuously recorded higher highs and lows. In addition, momentum remains bullish, with the Relative Strength Index (RSI) remaining above the neutral 50 level, although pointing downward.

That is, the first resistance level for the euro/dollar is 1.1550. After the breakthrough, 1.16 and the year-high 1.1631 will be exposed. Once a breakthrough is made, 1.17 will be the next target. Conversely, if the EUR/USD remains below 1.1550, it is expected to pull back to 1.15. Once broken, the next target will be 1.1450, followed by the 20-day simple moving average (SMA) at 1.1386.
