USD/CHF falls back to key support amid weak U.S. CPI data

The US dollar/CHF fell back to the key 0.8400 integer support during the North American trading session on Tuesday. After the release of the US Consumer Price Index (CPI) data in April, the US dollar (USD) faced selling pressure, with data showing inflation growing at a moderate rate, lower than market expectations. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), CPI rose 2.3% year-on-year in April, down from 2.4% in March and 2.4% expected. The core CPI, excluding volatile food and energy xmmarkets.cnponents, remained at 2.8%, consistent with analyst expectations.
The US dollar index (DXY) measures the performance of the dollar against six major currencies, and has fallen back from Monday's monthly high of 102.00 to nearly 101.30. Traders cut bets on the Fed's dovish stance at its July meeting, with the CMEFedWatch tool showing the current probability of interest rates remaining unchanged in the 4.25%-4.50% range of 61.4%. Nevertheless, widespread concerns about a cooling U.S. economy and ongoing U.S.-China trade uncertainty still put pressure on the dollar.
Similarly, the Swiss franc (CHF) rose against most major currencies (except the Australian dollar and New Zealand dollar) as the currency benefits from its safe haven position amid global economic uncertainty. The pair is still supported near the 0.8375 level, which was the September 6 low and was once the main resistance level.
Technical Analysis
The US dollar/CHF is hovering near the key support level of 0.8400, striving to restore upward action energy. The pair has climbed above the 20-day index moving average (EMA) and is currently trading around 0.8326. If it can continue, it may issue a stronger one.bullish trend signal. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) on the 14th has rebounded to the 60.00 level, indicating that positive momentum is accumulating, but it is necessary to confirm that breaking through this level is to achieve a continuous rebound.
Key resistance levels include the psychological threshold of 0.8500, followed by the April 10 high of 0.8580 and the April 8 high of 0.8611. On the downside, if it falls below 0.8375, it may expose the May 7 low of 0.8186, followed by deeper support levels close to the April 11 low of 0.8100 and April 21 low of 0.8040.
The US dollar/CHF remains in a fragile recovery as traders remain cautious before more U.S. economic data and Fed guidelines are released, closely monitoring risk sentiment and changes in global macroeconomic indicators.
